Art Process Trapani
Art Process is an online venue where contemporary visual artists meet to setup a collective virtual exhibition of their artwork.
Art Process Trapani 2007 will be the first offline gathering of those artists, where they get a chance to meet face-to-face, and present a real exhibition of their art in the charming city of Trapani, on the west coast of Sicily, in Italy.
Trapani is a beautiful mediterrenean seaport backed by Erice, a mountain-top town, and fronted by the Egadi islands. It has particularly rich cultural influences from many ancient civilizations: Trojan, Phoenician, Roman and Arabic. See here for futher information.
The city offers many excellent venues for exhibiting visual art, and in recent years has seen a rekindling of interest in hosting international artistic and sporting events.
In early September 2006, a "Request for Participation" was sent to all artists exhibiting with Artprocess.com introducing the idea of a group show in this picturesque location. This is the list of 66 artists who replied expressing their interest in exhibiting at Art Process Trapani 2007, and working to make it a collective success - both personally and artistically.
The artists have been asked to create at least one new work for the show, and to document it's proress on this site (see link work-in-progress).

I believe that every artist marks his/her individual journey of search. To partecipate in Trapani art.process is a chance for me to share and compare myself with different artist and individualities. I'm interested in the possybility to meet people who works in the other countries, to share opinions, dynamics end over all, the "creative target", the imput end the motivation, that makes them to operate in the contemporary art sield | Italy | Feb 8, 2007 |
| Italy | |
| Alida Bertinotti Artist's comment: Sì accetto all'esibizione di Trapani 2007.
| Sheila Brown Artist's comment: I was not at all sure of participating in the exhibition since I am very new to painting. However, JP encouraged me by saying that it is not a question of the length of time you have been painting but of the message you you succeed in communicating. If the language you use is 'honest and true' you are on the right track. It is wonderful to hear about, and discuss the work of experienced artists. It will be very exciting and stimulating to participate in this exhibition. | Ireland (Eire) | May 9, 2007 |
| Patricia Carmo Baltazar Correa Artist's comment: i like the idea of being part of jp's process; getting to know the other people who are part of this group; trapani sounds very interesting, it's a chance to study a little bit about this city, which is surely one of the many wonderful places in italy. | Brazil | Jul 23, 2007 |

| Elisa Cella Artist's comment: I like the idea of all the process from the web to the exhibition, with the possibility to show the growing up of the paintings. I like some of the other artists and I'm curious to see their works alive and to meet them. I like the idea to bring artists from everywhere and to get them in touch and to put them together in the same place. A not banal place for a not banal process. Moreover, I've never been in Trapani. | Italy | May 31, 2007 |
| Italy | Mar 9, 2007 |
| john-paul Delaney Artist's comment: I'd been looking around for an opportunity to arrange a real Art Process group show, when Antonio Sammartano suggested I come to Trapani. As soon as I arrived there, I knew that this is the place. I found Trapani to be a very interesting city, rich in historical and cultural references, and the Trapanesi I met were extremely hospitable. I'm sure the experience of this project will be enjoyed by all. | Ireland (Eire) | Sep 23, 2008 |
| Michela Del Degan Artist's comment: The created work has interwoven a time of memories within itself. Each knot encloses an infinite space of my mind, generating a physical shell through the movement of my hands. The aim was to create organic volumes of a stereometric body, an artistic geometry presenting the ancient way of working of an artisan. Macramé is the art of making decorative knots, a technique used by sailors to pass the time during the long days spent at sea. This exploration of the art of macramé took me to Sicily, and to Trapani in particular, to exhibit my goods for cultural exchange. Ever since the most ancient times, art has spread by following different paths, today we navigate on a boundless artistic sea, and we must mark out the land where we meet to transmit our own artistic message. | Italy | Mar 25, 2007 |
| Derek Des Islets Artist's comment: art makes me happy it is an addiction i am involved with, fortunately it is a positive addiction, and although there are ups and downs to everyones life the art is their to consume the emotion. this project will be one of the positives of our lives and will better enhance our understanding our ourselves and of the art we create and enjoy. my personal story of my art is seen and every piece which i make is a picture of me, my mindset and most importantly emotion. we humans have that special gift of feeling and to portray this through creation is one part of the addiction that i entice. though we strive to make great works of art, the really great ones are the ones unseen and eathly from the feeling of love to a beatiful sunset, the power of nature will be forever beautiful and horrifying, but my endeavors to create tap into this knowledge that there are things out in the world and beyond that are ever more beautiful and even less understandable than our persons. these indisctibable objects and their manifestations in our minds are worthy subjects to create. the exhibit at Trapani will help me and all of us included to understand ourselves and the deeper truth of the universe.godspeed | United States | Jan 17, 2007 |
| Gianpiero Di Girolamo Artist's comment: It would be first group exibition and I would consider this as a major milestone in the development of my artistic process. It is a perfect complement to ArtProcess priciples and I look forward to know other artists, and exchange ideas with them. | Italy | Jun 14, 2007 |
| Georges Duhamel Artist's comment: It has a breath of fresh air. I like the enthusiasm of all. I felt carried away by your energy and I like it. | Canada | Feb 16, 2007 |
| Vasyl Dzhabraylov Artist's comment: I am interested in any international art venue/exhibition. Especially when I am invited to participate. Moreover, after studiing all e-mail conversation between the artists - I'm sure that Trapani 2007 is beginning of the intersting art project. And I don't want to miss an opportunity of this start. | Ukraine | Mar 4, 2007 |
| Shefqet Avdush Emini Artist's comment: I find Trapani excellent. I like to exhibit with many artist. Trapani is a beautiful place in beautiful Italy. Something about my work: I work expressionistic. I try to bring out what I feel inside at the moment... strong and quick. | Netherlands | Feb 7, 2007 |
| Petra (Pyro) Engelhardt Artist's comment: It is a good idea to look for art as an art processs without small profits and quick returns... I don't have any problems to show people to be "a master of trade" And it is a real good feeling to help people into practise... Thank you for voting my work: http://www.celestekunstpreis.de/2008/voto.asp?opera=08-k-engelhardt-petra | Germany | Apr 10, 2008 |

| Tommaso Garavini Artist's comment: Sicily is one of the most beautiful and fascinating places i've been in italy and july in Trapani will be incredible. The idea of sharing with so many artists from all over the world this that will be a huge exhibition, the chance to confront and therefore to learn and enrich myself, the possibility to show what I do in such an incredible place, makes 'trapani 2007' an happening to which I couldn't say no. | Italy | Apr 2, 2007 |
| Margie Glass Artist's comment: a "colorful and dynamic" INCONTRO of artists--and critics,,in the wonderful light of Sicily-southern Italy---a meeting of minds and culture---a bit like my life---New York to Rome...to the beautiful Sabina countryside.Looking forward to being-and being inspired by the Sicilian Seaside. | United States | Feb 22, 2007 |
| Lina Golan Artist's comment: I like the idea of following the painting art-process.I also am very excited about the interaction between the artists from many different countries through the language of art. | Israel | Mar 10, 2007 |
| Elena Habicher Artist's comment: I like the idea of Trapani group exhibition. I see it as an Art Festival where artist can share their ideas and show their works. It is also very important for artists to get together and expand their network. The Trapani Art Project is a great chance not only for emerging artists but also for already well known. | Switzerland | Feb 12, 2007 |
| . hilary Artist's comment: In the beginning stages of this website, there was a question asked: "Is there such a thing as an art communitity?" Is being an artist a totally solitary occupation? My paintings come from observing the habits and routines and language of the people around me My paintings develop from the way these observed things get filtered though my perception of reality My paintings take on their own lives from the way that other people see their own stories in them So in certain ways, I'm not sure that my art would exist or develop or live if it did not involve other people And sometimes it takes the insight of another creative mind to make you see things in a new fresh way This is why I am glad to be involved with Art Process and to hear every day the insights of the other artists who contribute here. I believe that art comes from inside you It is an individual and a solitary profession But I think by standing open for the methods, thoughts, habits, processes, perceptions, languages and routines of other artists that is how we all can grow and become stronger in our own art This is where a community like Art Process can support us all, in that it helps us to support eachother. And I think that the exhibition in Trapani is an exclamation of how strong we all can be. | Ireland (Eire) | Apr 23, 2007 |
| Thomas HODGES Artist's comment: Trapani is a great opportunity to meet fellow artists from around the globe, and I'm very much looking forward to it. The chance to make new friends, interact with artists and non-artists alike, and perhpas also an opportunity to find new inspiration. | United Kingdom | Apr 5, 2007 |
| Antonella Iurilli Duhamel Artist's comment: Because it sounds honest and exiting. Honesty is for me a rare quality in the field of the art. More and more speculations over the art works takes our freedom away as creative beings. Trapani 2007 seems to be done with a lot of enthusiasm and I feel grateful to have been invited to expose my work. Thanks to all that people that are going to make it possible. | Italy | Feb 5, 2007 |

| Hillel Kagan Artist's comment: About a year ago I received an invitation from John-Paul Delaney to view his Art Process website and if I liked it to join in and upload some images.. From what I could understand, his project was to create an online community of artists from all over the world. Thinking it to be an impossibility but never being one to shy away from wasting precious time in the pursuit of a hopeless cause I uploaded some images and began to devote some of my time each day trying to get some communication going with my fellow artists on site. We artists (and I use the classic definition of "artist" meaning a practitioner of the visual arts particularly) usually work in isolation yet often historically great work has been achieved when a community of artists has had the opportunity to communicate with each other. It's not the idea of collaboration so much as having a meeting place where a vast array of ideas can be discussed and argued. This dialogue and social intercourse is very stimulating because artists speak their own language, one that quite frankly others don't. And those others may even include art dealers, collectors, critics and writers. To speak with one's peers who understand is a great enjoyment. To my amazement J-P's creation, this very website, through his commitment and labour has begun to bear fruit. Artists are speaking and getting to know one another and ideas are being exchanged. To be or not to be in the Trapani show? For me there was never any question, it's art history in the making. | Canada | Oct 13, 2008 |
| Doug Kinsey Artist's comment: The work shown here on artprocess is of exceptional quality. An exhibition of the members work is most deserved. | United States | Feb 15, 2007 |
| karen kruse Artist's comment: Italy sounds attractive enough to move anybody, but the thruth is I'd love to see Hanjo's nudes in their real size, and Hillel's scenes, Lina's textures, I know a small photo in a webpage doesn't give a real idea of how the artwork is. And of course I'd like to meet all these artists from different places, specially John Paul who asked me to join this project. Thanks to him. | Spain | Aug 3, 2008 |
| Rainer Landeck Artist's comment: I think that the exhibition in Trapani gives artists the great opportunity to take part in an event which was created from artists to artists. In this way the realisation of this meeting with artists from all over the world could give the possibility of a special atmosphere which could make a difference to exhibitions everyone knows. By the way: I want to see the sun. I want to see Italy ( I think this really could happen?) . I want to compare notes with other artists ( I don´t know if it is really possible because my English is so bad). But I know this exhibition really could be a new experience for my. | Germany | Mar 30, 2007 |

| Italy | |

| Corbett Miteff Artist's comment: I'm participating in Trapani 2007 because I was invited, and I could never turn down and invitation that's linked to art and Sicily! | United States | Jan 29, 2007 |
| Jacques Montel Artist's comment: The idea is so fantastic! To work as an artist means being alone most of the time. I am working as a set designer also which is very different.Working with all these actors and directors, lighting people, etc., gives you new ideas and solutions. The world of theater is a small comunity itself. You are working for short intensive periods and when it is over your head is full of ideas and visions for the next job. I love that. As an artist you are almost always alonein the studio, and sometimes you really need someone who you can share ideas, experiences, tips, etc., etc.,... I think it is easy to stay in the same process and do what you always have done... same tecnique and work. So, for me Trapani will be an open door to new experiences and a fantastic way to meet all these great artists. | Sweden | Jun 20, 2008 |

| Ilona Niemi Artist's comment: Art Process has acquainted me with many interesting artists from around the world, and our lively e-mail discussions have made me eager to meet the other artists in person. More than anything, it has been a pleasure to talk about art from a practicing artist's point of view, and I hope Trapani leads to more international collaborations in the future. | Finland | Mar 18, 2007 |
| michael oberlik Artist's comment: in the last six years, trapani has become sort of a second home for me, so, as also one of my best friends is situated near trapani, I HAD to participate - trapani is a great place! | Austria | Mar 14, 2007 |
| Aimee O'Neill Artist's comment: For me Trapani represents a unique opportunity – the possibility of exhibiting alongside a wonderful group of internationally diverse artists as well as a chance to visit a place as beautiful as Trapani. How could I say no?! It is a pleasure to be able to take part. Furthermore, in my busy life it can be hard to find time to spend in the studio while I am busy working at everything else, trying to make ends meet (I'm sure so many of us can relate to the realities and difficulties of artmaking!). My most important reason, therefore, is that Trapani has given me wonderful incentive and focus to make art. I look forward to taking on the challenge. | Ireland (Eire) | May 22, 2007 |
| hyesoo park Artist's comment: I want to see my self in other peoples who have many differ cultures, languages and thinking. and korea history is alike trapani. It's impress to me. | Korea (South) | Mar 22, 2007 |
| Dipalle Parmar Artist's comment: I have been to Trapani in 2001 and still feel the connection. To be part of a community, to share and to have some other part of the world comment on my process of art and life here! | India | Dec 15, 2006 |
| Italy | |
| Lars Reiffers Artist's comment: I like international art exhibitions and cooperations with artists around the world. With the perception of my personal work - i have very good experiences with the south europeen people. | Germany | Feb 6, 2007 |
| Italy | Feb 22, 2007 |
| Kazuaki Sato Artist's comment: First of all, I like Trapani.Have been there a number of times. For those who have never seen Trapani, it is worth visiting. A lot of sea food and a compact city with an airport,a railway station, a sea port, all kind of infrastructure and so on. Also many churches and banks. | Japan | Jan 13, 2007 |
| Aine Scannell Artist's comment: I was really delighted to hear of the idea of an exhibition when J.P. emailed me about it sometime last summer. This was a few months after I originally registered my artwork on art process dot com. At the time I originally registered I was not feeling much in the frame of mind to write about my general art practice. So I just put a couple of images into my folio. Lots of time went by and I was thinking that I would love to go to Trapani and participate in the event but what has also been happening in this time is that my health has been deteriorating. I have been experiencing this condition for 18 years now. It has been very depressing. So frustrating and making me feel so blue that I did not even want to write about it. I hate it when I am in that state of mind but when you live everyday with pain in your spine and legs it really gets you down. I have managed to just about keep up with my artwork (thank goodness!!) but avoided documenting my process because I was feeling so low and trying to suppress it. I tell you all if my health situation got so bad I could no longer make my artwork I don’t think I would really want to go on living. So as far as me physically going to Trapani is concerned it’s just not practical. This is because I cannot stand or walk for very long and exertions beyond a certain level of paced activity exacerbate my condition (Scoliosis). The ironic thing is that I look normal - no one could ever guess what is ‘going on’ inside of me - which is funny in a way because I prefer it that way really. Best thing would be for me to send artworks to Trapani – these would be works on paper that come out of my printmaking explorations. I wonder what people feel about each artist donating one piece of work to the art museum there in Trapani or whichever ‘body’ Antonio or JP feel is most appropriate? It would then become part of their art collection. To show our appreciation for their support - It’s just an idea. http://ets.freetranslation.com/ Sono stato realmente allettato per sentire dell'idea di un'esibizione quando un J.P. l'emailed me di esso dura un giorno l'estate. | Ireland (Eire) | Feb 14, 2007 |
| Hanjo Schmidt Artist's comment: Why did I decide to participate? Well John–Paul talked me into it haha. Okay, for to be serious, I became curious to meet Hillel and Elaine in the flesh. With both I had had a very interesting and inspiring virtual contact. Yes and having your work in a beautiful baroque surrounding doesn’t sound bad doesn’t it. It is a prospect I like. | Germany | Aug 24, 2008 |

| angela viola Artist's comment: Because the exposure of Trapani is a relation opportunity, of encounter between more artists than various nationality. An event of wide breath for a city like Trapani. The work that I expose is not that one of the photo, I will realize a new work for this exposure. This event will be a lot important if we all believe it. Excuse me for my english.... Angela | Italy | Sep 29, 2006 |

| TEREMOANA WILSON Artist's comment: I just so happen to live in Sicily... a fairly long way from my native New Zealand, the land of the long white cloud. Sicily inspires, sicily breaths art, ancient ruins, temples and scorching hot, sun dried tomatoes. It's time to challenge myself, get cracking and create. looking forward to meeting you all. grazie di tutto!! :-) ci vediamo a trapani the city of artists.......artprocess!!!!!!!!! | New Zealand | Jun 16, 2007 |
| Jeroen Witvliet Artist's comment: The exchange of ideas and ( visual ) creativity asks for communication. Our own personal view of reality is informed by and subject to what we are exposed to. As people we contribute to this reality, to our daily surroundings. We shape its existance. To form connections is to create endless possibilities for dialogue with everyone who decides to participate. Through dialogue we take responsibility. | Canada | Mar 23, 2007 |
| Maria Xagorari Artist's comment: I have always thought it is such a pity that all big art events (La Biennale di Venezia, Documenta etc.)are so much caracterised by trend, the curator's personal taste and each country's cultural politics. Then again it is a greater pity that artists seldom get together and do things on their own. I see the Trapani initiative as an important international event gathering artists who participate mostly in order to interact with each other. Here we can have a free, unguided look at contemporary art in the making. By the way, I love Italy but have never been south. I hear it is enchanting. Ci vediamo la. | Greece | Nov 17, 2008 |
